Why Hire Jan
THREE REASONS WHY CLIENTS HIRE
CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™
All In The Family
Jan’s dad worked for Morgan Stanley and was actually one of the original Financial Advisors to become a Certified Financial Planner™ back in the early 1980’s. When Jan found herself facing a divorce, her dad strongly urged her to find a CFP® who could understand tax returns, insurance policies and cash flow, or risk leaving assets on the table by not being able to “follow the money.” Sure enough, his advice proved invaluable. Jan found a professional CFP® who would guide her through the financial research necessary to protect her own interests. To her surprise, Jan found tremendous enjoyment throughout this process. After the dust cleared, Jan’s CFP® encouraged her to start taking classes herself and study to become a Certified Financial Planner™. By 1999, Jan had opened up shop, helping clients just like her to “Organize & Simplify Their Financial Lives.”
Jan also has a more than 25-year background as a Registered Dietitian, working everywhere from critical care clinical nutrition to private practice. She has a Masters Degree in Allied Health and has taught courses at the University level. Back then, one was required to also study business, including business planning, finance and behavior, psychology of business, cost controls, budgeting, marketing and even event planning. “What I do today is keep my clients fiscally fit, as opposed to physically fit” says Jan. “The process is the same. I take a history, examine your current positions and how you ‘consume’ assets. But rather than putting you on a diet, I put you on a healthy cash management program, increasing your financial awareness instead of your nutritional awareness. And instead of Protein, Fat & Carbs, I help clients with Stocks, Bonds & Mutual Funds. I’ve run eight marathons, and I think of managing my clients' money as more of a marathon, than a sprint.”
Certified Financial Planner™ Designation
The selection of a financial advisor may be the most important decision in your retirement planning journey. The planner should be able to play a central role in helping you meet your life goals and achieve financial well-being. One way to differentiate advisors who are committed to competent and ethical behavior is to look for the CFP® or Certified Financial Planner™ certification. This designation is earned by planners who have successfully met stringent requirements encompassing Education, Experience, Ethics and Examination. A professional CFP® is capable of taking a comprehensive view of your finances. Questions to ask before hiring any planner include:
- What experience do you have?
- What are your qualifications?
- What services do you offer?
- What is your approach to financial planning?
- Will you be the only person working with me?
- How will I pay for your services?
- How much do you typically charge?
- Have you ever been publicly disciplined?
- Why are you in this business?
- Can I have it in writing?
When you hire Jan Johnson, you get Jan Johnson, not someone else she trained. All plans are customized for each client, with personal feedback on each area of your financial life.
